January

Dearest January,
You suck.
Sincerely, Megan

Hope I don't hurt January's feelings... though I have a feeling it knows it's one of the worst months. December is a hard act to follow.

I have never liked January. Aside from the one huge reason (Jack died last January), there's a plethora of other reasons to really, really dislike the entire month.

January's CONS
It's been long, and cold and gray.
Katie and Charlotte have been really sick for going on 10 days (but finally are getting better)
Three pediatrician visits in a week
Sick girls = very whiny girls
Sick girls + cold weather = cooped up in the house for days on end
I've been a bit sick myself
There's no good holiday involving chocolate/and or gifts for me

January's PROS
Inauguration Day
My mom's birthday (sorry Mom that your birthday month sucks)
I am going to ATLANTIC CITY next Saturday for my mom's bday with her and my aunt. The last day of January finally does not suck

I am so looking forward to going away, even for just one night. I need a break. I love my babies, oh, I love them more than I can even describe. But it's been a lot of snot and poop (antibiotics, yikes) and whining and fighting and clinging and more whining and much more snot around here lately. Oh, and Yo Gabba Gabba... I've watched so much Yo Gabba Gabba I think it's fried my brain... to the point where I now LIKE IT. I became a fan of DJ Lance Rock on Facebook and can't stop singing songs like "Try it! You'll like it!" and "It's a party in my tummy!!" These are bad signs.

The girls and I basically spend EVERY MOMENT TOGETHER. I put my coat on and they immediately grab their coats too because hey, if Mom is going somewhere, they are of course going too.

I would like, for just one day, to put my coat on and go somewhere without them (besides say Shop Rite or CVS). I know I will miss them terribly, and I'm sure they will miss me, though I know they'll have fun with Daddy.... but I can't wait to spend 24 blissful hours without saying the words:

NO NO!
Naughty!
You KNOW that's naughty!
Stop throwing food on the floor!
Did you put banana in my hair?
Don't chew on my shoes!
Don't eat something she just spit out!
Do I smell poop?
Who stinks?
There's room for both of you on my lap!
Stop fighting!
Did you just wipe your nose on me?
STOP pinching me!
You have a big booger, let me get it. I need that booger!!! LET ME GET IT!

Actually, I might say that last one to someone in the casino, I can't help myself sometimes.

A snotty Katie.

I was just asking myself today - How many times in one day can I ask my twin two yr olds to get off the table??!! Sounds like you are having some of the same issues...repeating yourself all day long. Have fun in AC and win big!

yeah, I think all SAHM's are feeling this same way. I am in agreement with everything! I loved your list of things you don't want to say in those 24 hours you are away. Love it!

Maybe while you are in AC for a 24 hour period, colds, whining, boogers and clinging will all go away! :) They are getting so big. And I had to laugh when you said they get their coats when you get yours. You have to admit that is a cute picture. Have a relaxing, blast in AC and Happy Birthday to your Mom.

I have been following your blog....ok, maybe stalking you blog....for awhile now ;-) You are such an inspirational lady, and your girls are so beautiful. I had to comment today when I saw that you wrote about "Yo Gabba Gabba." I have a 9-month-old son, and this is the ONLY show that he will stop and watch...and let his mom have a few minutes to get some things done. What is it about this show?!?!? I have to admit, I'll find myself watching it too. I just can't get enough of DJ Lance Rock. My favorite song of his is, "Don't, don't, don't bite your friends!"

Hang in there, January is nearly over! Glad you're all finally starting to feel better. Good luck in AC! :)

It got to a point in my family that my sisters and I talked about whatever shows our kids were into as part of our daily conversations. We liked them too. We sang the songs. There are a few shows that we all still watch together as a family and I have a 6 and 11 year old. It is some of the best tv. Enjoy your trip!

Megan - I read your blog everyday. Well, everyday that you post, anyways! I have never written to you before, but I just gotta tell ya - you are really FUNNY! Your sense of humor shines through in all of your posts... even the sad ones. Keep on keepin' on this January - don't forget that chocolate and kisses are around the corner in February!

January does suck. Sorry you've got sickies too. Hope everyone gets well soon. That list of things you say sounds awfully familiar!

OMG I really laughed out loud reading this post... I hate, hate, hate January, too. (Although my husband's b-day is in Jan: sorry, honey.) It's just the worst...way too long until spring and nothing at all to distract us from the dreary misery. Not even pretty Christmas lights outside. Ugh. But the best was your last line... I can't help myself either, at least with the kids although maybe not strangers. I chase after both the boys (even Evan, at 11) with tissues, q-tips, nail clippers, you name it... I can't leave it alone if there is something there that shouldn't be... LOL.

PS> At least they'll have chocolate bunnies in CVS soon.

I'm not a SAHM now, but I was once and I, too, hated January. Now all three of my kiddos are in school and I'm back to work and guess what?!? I STILL hate January, although it's not as awful as it used to be. The kids are still sicker than any other month, but it gets better. Keep thinking that...maybe it'll help pull you through. Have fun next weekend!

My child isn't even born yet and I'm already yelling that stuff all the time to our 3 VERY BAD cats. The only difference is if I get annoyed I can toss them in the basement for a few hours while I take a nap. Or just leave and go for a walk. Can't do that with a baby! Then again the baby won't be jumping up into the kitchen cupboards knocking down wine glasses. Or I hope....

I find the problem with having multiples is that they keep getting each other sick so that we stay sick all winer.

Try it, you;ll ike it......

Sometimes, (looking around to make sure no one sees this), I go to work and catch myself singing "There's a party in my tummy!"
And the one phrase that I would love to never say again to my children, not even just for 24 hours, forever...would have to be "YUCKY! WE DON'T EAT POOP!"

Allison said...

Oh how I hate January too. I always tell my husband that it is the WORST month of the year. Both of my kids had "the virus" and it's been a non-stop clean up of vomit and you know what. To make matters worse, I caught and so did my husband. I am ready for February!!!

I am cracking up at the booger thing. I said those EXACT words to Gavin at bedtime tonight. Such a glamorous life we lead, huh? Have fun in AC and don't, don't, don't bite your friends!

The only good thing for me in January is my birthday. I don't dislike it, but frankly, it's not my favorite month either!!! I hope you have a great time in Atlantic City, you deserve it!!!

Hi! I have been reading your blog pretty faithfully since learning about your family last December via the Nest (does it even exist anymore?) Anyway, I love reading your stories about the girls and hearing about how you keep Jack and his memory alive - you are such an inspiration and I think of your courageous and positive attitude whenever I am starting to let myself have a pity party! Anyway, your most recent entry could have been picked right from my brain - especially the phrases you hope to go 24 hours without saying! I don't have twins but have a fearless 19 month old boy who defiantly challenges me most days - especially when he knows I am holding his 6 week old sister and can't get to him in time! So thank you so much - I always look forward to catching up on your stories when I have been in computer withdrawal bc reality forces me to change some diapers and mix some formula! Hope you have a great rest of the week!

Omg - hilarious, esp the booger comment! I have to get them too....

I hear you. The one I find myself saying that I sort of can't believe is, "Please stop eating the car!" (My little guy likes to chew on the rubber on the door frame while I'm getting his older brother out. Go figure.)

You will LOOOOOOOVE being away, I promise. Have a great time.
